My New Music Obsession: Lana Del Rey

I'm always looking for new music and when Lana Del Rey came on when I was at my office, I was instantly obsessed with her. She gorgeous. She makes everything she wears stunning, has a incredible voice, and is sexy. Enough said?
When hearing her Born To Die album I was instantly transported into the magical world of Lana Del Rey, where there's tons of tragedy and no such thing as happiness. Although it seems like she has the same beat in every song (which she does), her songs are extremely catchy without being annoying. Get me?

The concept behind her new video National Anthem is seriously to-die-for and breathtaking. You must watch it now.
Some of my favorites from her album are Born To Die, National Anthem, and Blue Jeans. Did I get you obsessed with her as well? I hope so.

Decked Out In Topman & My Life Continues...

topman ltd shirt, topman jacket, levis jeans, topman boots, rayban glasses
Seriously this week has been one of the craziest weeks ever. I seriously give props to people that have been working 7 days a week for a while. I've been doing it ever since I got to New York and I'm definitely pooped out.
If you guys are curious about how my internship is going, it's wonderful. Not only have I learned about PR, but also basic skills that can be used in everyday situations. My bosses are amazing and they have taught me so much (so far).
Now that I finally have been in New York for about 2 months, I feel like a New Yorker. Totally kidding, but I feel like I have developed a thicker skin around people (which could be a good/bad thing).
I have asked some of my co-workers and friends about why New Yorkers are so "mean" and it seems like the common answer is because they don't have anytime to spare. I guess I can agree with that to a certain extent.
No matter what I'll always have that midwestern hospitality. Oh and I forgot to mention that I recently acquired a job at Refinery29.com, fashionista's go-to blog, as a street style photographer for the New York tab. One thing I can say is that those hard hours as an intern do pay off.

Obsession With The Topman Design SS 2013 Collection

I am definitely not the person to write reviews on runway shows, but there was one particular show that stuck out to me. Topman Design Spring/Summer 2013, I love you. From whimsical flower prints to varsity inspired jersey shirts this collection really has it all.

Now you probably think I'm insane for loving every single piece but this collection screams my name. If you know me well enough, you know that I'm obsessed with color and prints.

Can I please pre-order these shorts & blazer? I'm obsessed with this print. So vibrant yet could be paired with some dark denim jeans or a very basic tee. That's the lovely thing about insane prints. Being able to tame the prints down.

The reason that I love the Topman Design collection versus the mainline collection is that the Topman Design collection brings new trends to the tables. The mainline is more for guys who are not willing to take risks but still want to look good.

I'll take 2 of each pair please and thanks.

My Obsession With Layering Continues In New York

It's weird how people constantly ask me why I wear so many layers of clothing everyday. I feel that I've always had to wear at least 2 pieces as a top and 1 piece on the bottom. The picture above was taken in SoHo the first day I arrived in New York. The girl was extremely hesitant of me taking her photo, but she finally broke down and let me take it. I'm glad she did.

When I was hanging out with a friend on Memorial Day I was wearing a H&M white blazer, Topman neon yellow button up, some jeans, and boots. I think it reached to 90 degrees that day, yet I still kept my blazer on. I feel like sometimes you just have to suffer.
To me only wearing a t-shirt and bottoms is just way to plain. I definitely always need to have some sort of cardigan/jacket. For me it feels like I'm naked when I'm only wearing just a plain top and bottom. Whether its just putting on a cropped leather jacket or a long lightweight cardigan, the more pieces - the better.
The picture above was taken by the lovely Leilanie from The Thriftaholic in January, aka a long time ago. I love this picture of the numerous of layers that makes up this outfit.
Here's a little denim on denim action with a little bit of sporty flavor and preppy chic. Wow that was kind of a tongue twister.

A Peak Into The Life of Luis Through Instagram

I'm seriously a huge fan of Instagram. At first I didn't understand the hype of the app when it came out, but once I created an account I was addicted. I love how you don't even need an expensive camera to make your pictures gorgeous.

These pictures are pretty much a quick overlook of what I've been doing in New York. If you don't already, follow me on Instagram. My username is Chic Overload just like my blog! Also if you haven't already, you can get instant updates of my life on Twitter. To follow just click right here.

Change in Direction

versace for h&m tank, h&m denim shirt, levis skinnies, h&m sandals,
michael kors watch, alexander wang rocco bag, rodarte for oc sunglasses
The past week has been literally insanity for me. Work, interning, life, family, opportunities, and my future hit me all at once. I told myself that I have to stay focused on why I came to New York in the first place, to grow and learn as much as possible about PR.
Staying focused is one of those skills that slowly develops as you continue to grow. It's extremely difficult, because there are so many pathways that you can take. At the end of the day whichever pathway that you decide to take is going to make you develop into a wiser human. Its crazy on how many opportunities there are out here in New York.
It's funny that I even bring this up, because I was approached with a life changing opportunity last week. Not only does the decision have to do with my future, but it also has to do with the current situation I'm in. I'm sure you want to know what the situation is, but when I find out my decision I'll make sure to let you guys know.
One thing about my summer adventure in New York is to not let anyone put you down. I know that's pretty much common sense but it has definitely played a huge part in my journey. It seems like New Yorkers or people who live in the "city" always have a shield up. They are constantly focused on getting from point a to point b with no distractions, while in the Midwest people are more so relaxed.
I feel like many people around the world dwell on the smallest things on life. I mean I do all the time, but sometimes you just have to take a deep breath and continue. Maybe grab some delicious cupcakes from Baked by Melissa or get a foot treatment at Lush. I always tell everyone that you only live once. You never know what could happen tomorrow or the day after or in 3 years.
Live life to the fullest no matter what anyone tells you. Ultimately you get one life and every decision that you make leads to a different pathway. If you really want to become an editor-in-chief of a major magazine, then you'll do whatever it takes to get to that position. For me it's all about doing the dirty work then slowly climbing up the ladder.

Now moving on to something completely different that is Lush related - yay. The word has been out that Lush is creating a new line called Emotionally Brilliance. Well I just so happen to have a little sneak preview of the line.

Can't guess what it is now? Well I guess you're going to have to wait till July 21st to find out.

Friends or FRANDS at Topshop & Topman

Ello Poppit as my friends from Topshop would say. I've been having the time of my life interning for Topman. One of the lovely things that I have received from interning at Topman was friends.
It's extremely difficult moving into a huge city with nothing but a ton of clothes, a job, and an internship. Leaving everything behind, such as friends and family scared me at the time. It definitely still scares me thinking about it. The motive that keeps me going is that I would not be here if I didn't love what I do and I totally do.
So far I've met four lovely ladies that come from extremely different backgrounds yet work/worked their butts off at Topshop. Being the only intern at Topman has not only been amazing but a privilege to be selected.
I was lucky enough to work with Dawn a few times before her internship ended at Topshop. She was such a character with her cropped tops & short shorts. Although we'd argue about 95% of the time, I love her to death and wish her the best of luck on her journey. Cheetah headband & Jeffrey Campbell Creepers? Obsessed.
Then we have the lovely Heather who has saved my butt several times. She's definitely a hard worker, but loved to mess around whenever there was down time. I'm super sad that I only got to work with her a few times, but she was always a doll when we did work together.
I call her giggles, okay well not really, but she has to be one of my favorite people that I work with. Her name is Eve and she's from Liverpool, England... aka I can barely understand one word that comes out of her mouth (kidding). She's the kind of person where you could be having the worst day ever, but when you enter into the same room she just starts to make you laugh. Eve dresses in head to color, which is a huge plus in my book and has one of the biggest hearts. You're amazing.
Last but not least we have the lovely Emily. She's also from England but from Manchester. Emily seems to always make fun of my British accent and pretty much always tells me that I sound like a foreign person when trying to speak in my British accent. We're pretty much addicted to Starbucks. I get my venti ice coffee with a pump of cinnamon dolce syrup, extra soy milk, and easy ice with a tomato & mozzarella panini, while she gets her marble cake with some tea.
As you can tell I'm definitely blessed to working with amazing girls. I love you girls so much.
