Photo Shoot with Fellow Friend & Blogger: Kristyn Assise

I approached a friend of mine & a fellow blogger, Kristyn Assise and asked her if I was able to style & shoot her for my blog. Right away she surely said YES and seemed ecstatic. I have a theme about the stages of life, such as a fun child becoming a pre-teen that's a rebel.

Anna Hovet F/W 2011 Fashion Show & Vote Hovet Campaign

Vintage 1960's Customized Studded Blazer (Dorsia Shannon Vintage), Floral Shirt (Guess), Dark Skinny Jeans (Levis), and Engineer Boots (Aldo Shoes).

I was invited to attend Anna Hovet's F/W 2011 Collection show on March 26, 2011, and had the time of my life. Anna Hovet is an upcoming Chicago designer who started Anna Hovet Designs in 2009. She is known for having requests from Giuliana Rancic and Jennifer Hudson.

The show was hosted at the Chicago Fashion Incubator event room, where the doors opened promptly at 8:00 PM. The show didn't start till 9:00 PM, but it's always nice to socialize with some of the fashionista/fashionisto's in Chicago.

Katie (NowYouKnow), Marco (Chicago Models), & Willow                     Cha'rron (CChicChicago) & I

The show begun and right from the beginning I was in awe of the stunning designs! From the draped jersey dresses to the enlarged hooded sweatshirts, it was to die for! Here are all of her looks from the show!

Once the show ended I was able to chat with Karla & Zeenat from The AZk Group who is the PR team behind the Vote Hovet campaign. Anna Hovet recently won the premiere episode of Kenmore's reality show "So You Wanna Be a Designer" and Anna is asking for all of her fans, family, and friends to support her on the show. The reality show will stream live every Thursday on Kenmore's Facebook Page and viewers are allowed to vote up to 5 times between each episode from 6:45 PM to 7:50 PM.

So make sure you guys support Anna Hovet for the So You Wanna Be a Designer show, because the winning designer rceives a $20,000 cash prize and a Kenmore Elite washer and dryer show. How could you not vote for this lovely lady?

Rock the Red Fashion Show

Chambray Shirt (H&M), High Waisted Trousers (American Apparel),  Skinny Belt (American Apparel), Hudson Oxfords (Hudson Shoes), Red Chambray Bowtie (American Apparel), and Messenger Bag (Target).

On March 24th, 2011 I was invited to attend the Rock the Red Fashion show that was hosted by the Red Pump Project. If your unsure of what the Red Pump Foundation is, check out my previous post covering what they do & why they do it, here.

The event started out with Happy Hour from 6 till 7, and the show promptly started off showcasing some upcoming Chicago Designers. The designers each had their little segment of the show that ranged from 5-10 minutes each which I loved because I got to see the various styles of each designer. Here are some of my favorite pieces from the show..

After the show was over, I had the chance to meet up with one of my favorite bloggers - Nikia from ChiTownFashionista. She is one of the sweetest ladies I've ever met and was totally obsessing over her Lanvin for H&M Necklace!

I was also lucky enough to meet the people that worked with the Red Pump Project to make this event so successful.

Of course I can't forget about the guests who attended the event. Click the jump to see their pictures!

Vintage Heaven Sale

On Saturday, March 19 I attended the Vintage Heaven Sale in Wicker Park to support my friend Isa from Chicago Looks. I was surprised how many vendors she had come to the gallery. Some of the vendors were Dethrose VintageBow La BeauDorsia Shannon Vintage, and The Roo Vintage. There was so much stuff, from vintage Christian Dior ties to military blazers, they definitely had it all.

One thing that caught my eye right from the start was this custom-made studded blazer from Dorsia Shannon Vintage. Not only did it fit perfect, but the price was unbeatable and definitely a steal. It was pretty crowded when I arrived, but I still had the chance to meet up with some of the vendors and take pictures of them.

The Roo Vintage                                         Chicago Looks

I had tons of fun without spending a bunch of money which is always a plus. If you didn't have the chance to check out the Vintage Heaven Sale, head to their blog to get more information on the vintage vendors & their Etsy shops and locations.

Want list: Jil Sander Painted Sole Lace-Up Shoes

Source: Luisaviaroma

I have been eyeing these babies since they were released on the Spring/Summer 2011 collection. I just love the color block between the neon blue & black. Also its the simplicity that catches the eyes. Definitely chic.  They are available in an electric pink, blue, and also bright blue (whole shoe is blue), but the blue sole is calling my name.

Their available at Jil Sander's online store for $795.00.

What to Wear, Where Book Signing

If you guys don't know, I'm a huge fan of WhoWhatWear. If your unsure of what WhoWhatWear is, it's a blog that shows the latest trends, celebrity looks, and runway collections. I definitely recommend checking it out. I had the chance to attending the What to Wear, Where book signing that was held at The Book Cellar in Lincoln Square. The book signing started off with a Q&A and a little spiel of why Katherine Power & Hillary Kerr created the book. What to Wear, Where is pretty much a style guide for any event. They have different events listed in alphabeltic order from Opera to Date night. I love how the book isstructure & how easy it is to locate a specific outfit for a specific event.

Pretty much what I got out of the Q&A was that Hillary is obsessed with leather biker jackets and Katherine is obsessed with party skirts. Katherine mentioned that she has no trousers, shorts, or pants but has 40 belts and tons of party skirts. They also mentioned that it took them about a year to create this book and it wasn't the easiest thing to do.

There was a pretty big turnout and you can tell that Katherine & Hillary are very passionate of what they do. I had such a great time and bumped into a few friends -Jenna (ChiCityFashion), Corri (ShopEDropOff), and Nicole (The Style Tribe).

I recommend checking out the book because it's the perfect guide for all fashion events (especially when your in a hurry!)

Chicago Fashion Incubator

I was lucky to attend the Chicago Fashion Incubator event that was held on March 15, 2011. If your unsure of what CFI is, it gives the opportunity for 6 upcoming designers to have the resources to be able to express their ideas. The CFI's pop-up shop that contains all of the upcoming designers collection pieces is located at the 900 North Michigan Shops on level 5.

When entering into the CFI Event room I was presented with various pieces from the upcoming designers. The clothes dramatically changed from tribal prints to classic dresses to event tailored suits for men. My mouth dropped when I saw all of these pieces because the amount of talent and work that was put into these clothes. Also it was hard to believe that these were only upcoming designers that designed this! So much talent!

What I wore to Chicago Fashion Incubator

I had such a fun time at the Chicago Fashion Incubator and I'm so excited to do a post on it. But for now I'm going to give you a look at what I wore to the event. If you didn't read the previous post, my inspiration for my outfit was Davidelfin Tautology S/S 2011 Collection. I was aiming for an easy color block which people seemed to spot right on.

Marc by Marc Jacobs Sweater (Bloomingdales), White Football Belt (Brother), Black Jeans (H&M), and Aldo Engineer Boots (Aldo Shoes)
I hope you enjoy it!

Inspiration from Davidelfin

I was searching my closets and was trying to find something for Macy's Fashion Incubator that will be held today. I was looking through some of my favorite designers and decided to look at Davidelfin's Tautology S/S 2011 Collection. I'm totally obsessed with his belts and chose to incorporate a belt similar to his, in my outfit.

I can't wait to show you guys my outfit and hopefully someday I can acquire one of his belts!

Spring Budget Look #2 - Color Blocking

I had mentioned in a previous post that one of spring/summer trends will be color blocking and bright colors. I know that it's easy to spot bright colored designer products from Jil Sander or Prada, but sometimes it's not for people who can't afford these brands. So I present you with..
I'm totally obsessed with the ASOS Short Sleeve Belted Dress because of the bright blue that seems to very popular on the runway. It's so eye catching yet you can wear it without looking like a neon sign. The ASOS yellow clutch accents the dress with a bright yellow and the Zara Heels are to calm down the outfit as a whole. Perfect!

Borris Powell C Me N Dior F/W 2011 Collection Show

On March 11, 2011 Borris Powell reveiled his C Me N Dior F/W Collection that wowed the crowds. The event started in the Sheraton Hotel convention lobby where guest mingled and conversed about what Borris Powell has in store for them. All of the guest were dressed to impressed, but a few of them stood out of the crowd. Although shocking, but definitely not shocking, I noticed the amount of people that were coming in to see his wonderful collection.

Then the show quickly approached and we started seating at 8:30. I was lucky enough to get a seat in the front row, because I was told that the show was completely sold out. The show started off with 2 upcoming designers that revealed a lingerie collection & a ready to wear f/w collection. Then Borris Powell raffled off a replica of his famous "Black Swan" dress that was worn at the Oscars.
Winner of the "Black Swan" dress with Borris
Finally it was time for Borris Powell to release his collection. Here it is, Borris Powell's C Me N Dior F/W 2011 Collection that is inspired the timeless 40's energy that Christian Dior has shown. The collection consisted of wools, leather, fur, and satins that was strongly tailored with a mix of modern minimalism.

My overall impression of the collection was that the pieces were so well made and innovative. I loved the combinations of leather and fur in a skirt form. Borris Powell received several standing ovations when the last few dresses came out because of the shock that it brought to the room.

Final Walk

Christian Dior would definitely be proud of Borris and of course he didn't let his family, friends, and fans down. Borris Powell recently had a trunk show for his collection on March 12, 2011. If you want more information on when the collection will be available, please check out BorrisPowell.com.
